Health Benefits Of Magnesium Supplements

The human body contains plenty of magnesium. It is vital in many important roles for our body as well as our brain. Some people might be deficient in magnesium which is why it is to understand the health benefits of magnesium. A doctor will be able to tell you whether or not you are deficient in magnesium so double-check with them.

Involved With Biochemical Reactions

Magnesium is found in literally everything. Additionally, around 60% of the magnesium that is in our body is found in our bones. The rest of it will be found in our soft tissues, muscles and bodily fluids such as our blood. We rely on magnesium that much that it is in every single cell that we have.

Magnesium is linked with over 600 chemical reactions within the body. It helps convert food into energy as well as create new proteins from amino acids. Another great function that magnesium has is that it helps create as well as repair DNA and RNA. It also helps with the contraction and relaxation of muscles. Finally, it is needed to regulate the neurotransmitter which is what sends messages throughout your brain and central nervous system.

Can Potentially Boost Your Exercise Performance

Magnesium helps the blood flow around the body. This is one of the reasons why you need an extra 10 – 20% when you are exercising compared to resting. It helps reduce fatigue by pumping sugar into the muscles that you are using which help dispose of lactate.

There have been many studies in the past for magnesium supplements. In one study, volleyball players who had taken magnesium supplements had improvements in how high they could jump and their arm movements. There was also another study that involved athletes who had also taken magnesium supplements. They noticed faster times for running, cycling and swimming which was in a triathlon.

The results for taking magnesium supplements are not concrete. Some studies have shown that there are no benefits when it comes to magnesium supplements and sport.

It Can Help Fight Depression

As stated earlier, magnesium plays a vital role in the function of our brain. Low levels of magnesium have been linked to depression. One study showed that people under 65 who had low magnesium levels were at a greater risk of depression.

There are many health experts out there that believe a low intake of magnesium can cause many cases of depression and mental illness. Although, there are other health experts out there that say more research is needed.

Summary

There are many more benefits of taking magnesium supplements. Our body must get the required daily intake of all vitamins and minerals. One of the best ways to make sure you do this is by having a well-balanced diet. Another way to make sure that you get your daily intake is by having a multivitamin. A multivitamin will give you all the required nutrients you need in small amounts.
