The latest MMO to hit the market is almost here. New World stands as a very promising, unique and large scale experience. You’ll start out a shipwrecked colonist and grow into a territory claiming master of trades, fighting your way through a hostile island, where magic and evil are guaranteed to be discovered. However, considering its high-end graphics and lofty ideas, such as 50v50 PvP, getting to share the world in a 1000 player strong server and immersing yourself in the tense combat system.
All this does require a bit of computing power though. Such a shiny, new MMORPG needs some degree of power in a number of areas. Trouble is, it’s not easy learning what areas need to be addressed in order to play, so let’s have a look at what will be needed for you to wash up on the island Aeternum’s shores and stake your claim on a brand New World to explore.

Minimum System Requirements – New World
Brand new games of New World’s size will require a set of parts that help run the game on your computer without complaint. These parts sort out the graphics, how well the game runs, storing it and sorting the connections needed to socialize with your fellow colonists. Below is a list of all the minimum system requirements. Anything less will not allow you to play New World.
- OS (Operating System): Windows 10 64 bit is the recommended minimum OS needed for running New World.
- Processor: Either an Intel Core i5-2400 or an AMD CPU possessing four physical cores at 3Ghz will be the bare minimum for processing the game.
- Memory: 8 gigabytes (GB) of RAM will at least be needed to run the memory cache.
- Graphics: For graphics cards, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 2GB or an AMD Radeon R9 280 will sort out the handling of New World’s impressive visuals. This is the minimum requirement, however, so you can opt for a more powerful graphics card.
- DirectX: Version 12 of DirectX will be needed for running the game. This multimedia program is designed mostly for handling games being run on Windows.
- Network: Obviously, a broadband internet connection will need to be established. The idea of an MMO is a big, multiplayer experience, so without an internet connection, that experience is just not possible.
- Storage: Any MMO is not going to be a tiny thing to store on your computer. For New World, there is no exception. 35GB of available storage will have to be allocated and have the game on a computer.
- Additional Notes: Needless to say, an internet connection is required for you to play at all times. The game also offers in-game purchases, such as cosmetic work, which will need a connection.
Recommended System Requirements – New World
Minimum requirements for MMOs may allow you to play them in the first place, but it won’t be the most optimized version of playing it. If possible, you can try upgrading the various pieces needed to run New World and improve performance. This can range from how smoothly it runs, to how good the graphics are, to running it faster.
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit will still do, but there is a Windows 11 on the way. Expect to see it arrive late in the year.
- Processor: An Intel Core i7-2600K or an AMD Ryzen 5 1400 will properly boost the processing power
- Memory: 16GB of RAM will offer a decent upgrade, seeing how it’s doubling the minimum requirement.
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or an AMD Radeon R9 390X will do a much better job at giving you a prettier image of New World’s locations. However, you can go even further with graphics cards, a lot further. Be cautious though as prices for them are not what you’d call diminutive. The current chip shortage and the cryptocurrency market has also played a part in hiking up prices, so don’t expect to find a high-end graphics card at anything close to a low price.
- DirectX: Version 12 is the best one available to use, but, alongside Windows 11, DirectX 13 will be launching later in the year, so keep an eye out if you are looking to move up.
- Network: The same broadband internet connection as the minimum requirement, since there isn’t anything else to upgrade it.
- Storage: 35GB will stay the same. You can upgrade your storage if you want to, but it won’t have any benefit towards New World’s storage.
- Additional Notes: As mentioned, an internet connection is needed for playing New World and through such a connection you can gain access to in-game shopping. It should be said though that the shop will not be selling any gameplay advantages. That way, there is no disparity between players willing to pay and those lagging behind because they are willing to put in the work.
It should be said that upgrading a lot of these necessary pieces is not a cheap practice. After all, upgrading computers is one of the great technological money pits, so if you’re working with a designated budget it would be wise to shop around wisely for the best deal. Otherwise, costs can spiral and lead to some eye-watering spending.
